SF’s Computer Science Department welcomed Jennifer Piane, a Senior Systems Architect from STATS, who gave us a behind the scenes look at STATS' SportVu, player tracking software.
Ms Piane provided insight into the technology and the statistics it can provide. In addition she discussed how SportVu has been used for soccer matches. It was a fascinating presentation.
The NBA began using SportVu at the start of the 2013-2014 basketball season. Using six cameras installed at every stadium, SportVu uses innovative computer vision software, developed by STATS, to track the movement of players and the ball.
